Breakfast to-go jars!

As most of you know my family and I are participating in a Spending Freeze this month (read more about that here), but just because we can’t spend money on non-essentials items does not mean we have to give up on healthy eating.

Here is a quick lean (on both the wallet and waistline) breakfast chock full of healthy items you already have on hand.

Breakfast to-go jars!

You can experiment with a wide variety of yummy flavors.

    Base Ingredients:

1/3 cup of oats (preferably steal cut or thick whole…not instant)
1/3 cup of milk (I used coconut)
1/3 cup of yogurt (I used my son’s organic plain Greek)
1 teaspoon of chia seeds

1.) Add base ingredients to a mason jar or any type of Tupperware

2.) Add individual flavors:
Jar#1 I added a diced apple and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
Jar #2 contains a diced banana and 1 teaspoon of natural peanut butter
Jar #3 I used mixed berries and 1 teaspoon of maple syrup
Jar #4 I put diced pineapple and kiwi
*Other yummy flavors are pumpkin + nutmeg, Raisin and brown sugar, Raspberry and nutella.

3.) Stir, cover with lid and place in the refrigerator. Jars are ready the next morning and will stay good for over a week.

Get creative…have fun and enjoy an easy guilt free breakfast!

  1. Do the steel cut oats work well in this or are rolled better? I have made “overnight oatmeal” but only used rolled oats. I have lots of steel oats though that I would love to use up! I am trying this tonight with them!
